Below is a brief description of each massage or bodywork type that could be applied during your session. *Note: these descriptions are a small general overview of the type. If you have questions or would like a more in-depth definition please contact us.
Swedish Massage uses long flowing strokes and is generally used to promote relaxation and move lymph fluid. Very light to firm pressure can be applied depending on client preference.
Deep tissue is a general term that covers multiple massage types where the therapist's hands are usually still and directing pressure down into the tissue to address a problem or issue/injury. The pressure can be light to very firm depending on client preference/need.
Discovered, pioneered, and researched by Dr. Janet Travell and Dr. David Simons, Trigger Point therapy is a neuromuscular therapy that specifically addresses the presence of contractured muscle fibers. Trigger points are usually perceived as "knots" and are typically very tender or sensitive to touch and usually radiate a particular pain pattern to a different area that only relates to that specific trigger point.
Fascia is a pliable connective tissue that surrounds all the body's muscles and organs. This tissue acts as a protector and helps tissues move smoothly and freely. Fascia can become adhered becoming stiff and/or stuck to it's surrounding tissues instead of sliding/gliding freely. Affected areas when touched will usually feel stuck with an accompanying burning sensation.
Sports massage is a fairly broad term of bodywork that is generally geared towards the needs of athletes. There are 4 different categories of sports massage: maintenance, pre-event, day-of event, and post-event. Each type has a specific intention and result. For more information please contact us.
Scar tissue formation is a necessary part of the healing process. However, sometimes the body doesn't stop making scar tissue even after the healing process is complete, or the scar tissue goes beyond the area of injury. Scar release therapy is a gentle but effective therapy that can reduce the appearance, thickness, and adhesions of the scar to the surrounding tissues.
Targeted techniques are used to stimulate the lymphatic system and encourage the elimination of excess fluid in the body.
In addition to the above described massage types, other types of bodywork could be utilized during your session. Some of these include, but aren't limited to: Reflexology, nerve glides, joint mobilization, PNF stretching, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, Trager ® mobility therapy, active engagement technique (AET), cupping, and home exercises.
